Football is back in Portsmouth!
Thank you for registering for the Town of Portsmouth Youth Flag Football league, and for your patience as we have worked to understand how we will return flag football to Portsmouth and the surrounding communities safely this year. We have set the fee for the season at $100 per child with a $10 discount for each additional sibling. There is also financial assistance if needed. We will have three dates where you can pay in person by check or credit card, fill out registration, choose your jersey size, sign waiver forms, and get any of your questions answered about the season. I am happy to announce that we have almost 70 kids registered for the fall season so far. As a CoEd league, we are looking to increase the number of girls this year. Currently we only have a few. Nationally, girls flag football is on the rise and many colleges are bringing the sport to the their campuses (please refer to this article - https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/sport/naia-flag-football-teams-up-with-nfl-for-success-spt-intl/index.html).
We plan to start the season with practices on Monday August 31st and our first game on Saturday September 12th ending on Saturday October 24th. That gives us a 7 game season. This year, we will be very flexible with our schedule, given the changing environment we are in and that we will be in full compliance with the State of Rhode Island Youth Sports guidelines, which can be found here: https://reopeningri.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/7-2-20-Phase-III-youth-and-adult-sports_FINAL-evan-edits-1-v.F.1.pdf?189db0&189db0. We are looking to coordinate with the Aquidneck Island Flag Football league to play games against additional teams and to create a playoff structure at the end of the season. Our practices will all be held at the Gardner Seveney Sports Complex. We will have practices every Tuesday, but there is flexibility for the coaches to have practices on different days of the week. This will be communicated to you as we move closer to the start of the season.
We are still looking for coaches, assistant coaches and team parents. .

Today (August 31st) we get underway with the second Town of Portsmouth Youth Flag Football season. We have tripled in size this year and want to thank everyone who has dedicated their time to make it possible for our children to learn the game of football in a fun, safe, and engaging way.
In you haven't paid, please bring a check made out to the Town of Portsmouth to your first practice. Rosters have been emailed and practice dates have been set. You can also go into your registration site account and see who your coach is.

Jerseys and flag belts are on order from the NFL and will be arriving soon. Your first practice will be without flags. We still have two weeks before our first game day weekend which is Saturday September 12th.
Please only players and coaches on the field for practices. We can only have a certain amount of people on our near each field per state guidelines. We have four lined fields located at: 121 Linden Ln . If you stay while your child practices, please park in the lot that is south of the playing fields. Feel free to take a walk around the lower Glenn. It is a beautiful area!
